Award winning Actor Kevin Kline; the son of the former James Bond, Pierce
Brosnan; the daughter of director George Romero (Night of the Living
Dead); and the son of Academy Award nominated and Golden Globe winning Actress Melanie
Griffith.
Other former students include the son of Academy Award winning actor F. Murray Abraham;
the sister of director Luc Besson (Fifth Element, La Femme Nikita); daughter
of fashion designer Donatella Versace; film and television director, Peter
Bogdanovich's daughter; Dan Eisenstein, grandson of one of the fathers
of modern cinema; Christian Castro, famous Mexican singer; son of director
David Carson (Star Trek, Beverly Hills 90210); and Asian cinema star, Takeshi
Kaneshiro (Chungking Express).
Intensity is a hallmark of the New York Film Academy. The students eat, drink and
breathe Filmmaking, Acting, or Animation from day one. The classes emphasize hands-on
learning and inspire creativity. This is not a camp for passive participants. Camp
students must take an active role in every aspect of the program.
The New York Film Academy is a unique educational institution, devoted to providing
the most focused filmmaking, acting, and animation instruction in the world. Our
film & acting camps offer an intensive, hands-on experience, which gives high
school aged teens and tweens the opportunity to develop their creative skills to
the fullest extent possible.
Camp courses balance the study of the art form of filmmaking with practical experience,
in order to train students to be the best filmmakers, actors or animators they can
be. Each subject is taught through a combination of instruction, hands-on workshops,
and immediate experience. Indeed, from day one, our film & acting camp students
are behind the camera, performing in a scene, or creating a 3-D model – learning
by doing.
In all film & acting camps, each student writes, produces, directs, and edits
his or her own films. In addition, they assist other members of the crew in the
roles of director of photography and assistant camera person, providing all camp
students with extensive set experience. Animation camps for teens and tweens are
just as intensive and thorough.
Students are not lost in large classes. As an explicit policy, the Film Academy
limits class sizes, making individual attention and interaction among students and
instructors possible. We strive to create an environment that promotes personal
development and learning over competition. This nurtures a supportive, positive
atmosphere conducive to the level of collaboration required
to make a great film
or create a great performance.
Camp directors are confronted with a number of visual, dramatic, and technical challenges.
Acting students face the awesome challenge of bringing these stories to life by
creating living, breathing characters. 3-D animators must create an imaginary world
and characters of their own design. The Film Academy encourages students to work
through these challenges; to empower film & acting camp students to artfully
tell their stories.
Teen Workshops demand hard work, discipline, and maturity. Students must be self-motivated
and able to work with others. Our workshops are not for everyone, but for those
up to the challenge, they are extremely rewarding. Above all, Student must have
a sense of adventure and a willingness to break through limitations.
We invite you to visit any of our acting & film camp locations when in session,
and sit in on one of our classes at any time to see if it is right for you.
